Damien Hirst designs special edition bottle label to mark Somerset Cider Brandy’s European victory

Sunday, 23 October 2011
To appreciate the work of West Country born Damien Hirst one does require a particular taste, so perhaps then it is fitting that the internationally renowned artist has designed a psychedelic label for a special limited edition 20-year-old Somerset Cider Brandy being launched to celebrate its recent award of EU PGI protected status.

Hirst’s involvement in the celebrations is reportedly the result of a promise he once gave to the daughter of Julian Temperley, a cider brandy producer at Burrow Hill cider farm, who spearheaded the four-year long campaign with MEP Sir Graham Watson to regain its protected status.

Ten years ago Damien Hirst promised Alice that he would do a label for us and the matter was duly forgotten about,he explained in the Western Morning News. “Then at her fashion show this year she reminded him of his promise and the box is the result and we are using it to celebrate the PGI.

"This is a huge gift from him. He is a very good fellow."

The 500 special edition bottles each cost £85, of which £5 will go to charity, and can be purchased through their online shop.

One bottle, Mr Temperley said, will be given to Sir Graham Watson for the "enormous debt" they owe him for his help in securing PGI status.
